Position Overview

Qatar Project Management (QPM) is seeking a seasoned Design Manager (Fit-Out) to oversee the design aspects of high-rise and complex multiuse fit-out projects in Qatar. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in design engineering and will play a pivotal role in managing and coordinating all design-related activities, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest standards.

Principal Responsibilities

Design Delivery and Monitoring:

Establish and implement a comprehensive design work delivery and monitoring program for the site.

Actively participate in the selection and contracting of Design Consultants.

Monitor the work of Discipline Design Engineers and Design Consultants to ensure design correctness, completeness, and scope compliance.

Design Coordination and Review:

Maintain detailed records of Design Consultant submittals and ensure timely control of all submittals and correspondence.

Review and comment on all drawings and documents submitted by Design Consultants, ensuring that all revisions are incorporated into the final documents.

Coordinate with the home office for technical support to ensure the accuracy and completeness of design aspects.

Change Management:

Evaluate and endorse variation orders and concession requests submitted by Design Consultants for client approval.

Prepare technical scopes of work for Change Requests as instructed by the client.

Evaluate and assess Contractor’s Change Request Offers and provide technical feedback and recommendations to the client.

Client and Stakeholder Management:

Review and report to the client on all monthly reports submitted by Design Consultants, highlighting areas of concern and recommending action plans.

Facilitate meetings with Design Consultants, Sub-consultants, and clients to review design documents and make decisions as required.

Propose alternative materials or systems to improve design operations and construction costs through value engineering workshops.

Team Management:

Set up and manage the discipline design team on-site in collaboration with the Project Manager and Project Director.

Review consultant and contractor work progress for contract payments and ensure compliance with project timelines and quality standards.

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a relevant Engineering discipline.

Experience:

Minimum of 15 years of experience in Design Engineering.

At least 10 years in a similar role within a medium to large Project Management company.

Proven experience in high-rise projects and fit-out of complex multiuse projects.
