Job Description

As a Container Inspector at DP World Jebel Ali Terminals and Free Zone FZCO, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of shipping containers used in global trade. This position involves a combination of technical inspection skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Comprehensive Container Inspection:

Perform meticulous inspections of various types of shipping containers, assessing their condition according to client-specified criteria. This includes inspections for Port compliance, International Institute of Container Lessors (IICL) standards, Marine Cargo Insurance Criteria (MCIC), Cargo Worthy certifications, and ensuring containers are Wind and Water Tight.

Identify and document any damages, defects, or non-compliance issues during inspections. This could include structural integrity checks, rust and corrosion assessments, and ensuring the container’s suitability for specific cargo types.

Accurate Estimate Generation:

Create detailed and accurate repair estimates for all inbound containers. Use photographic evidence to support assessments and ensure transparency in the evaluation process.

Work closely with repair teams to communicate necessary repairs and monitor the repair process to ensure it aligns with the estimates provided.

Container Grading:

Evaluate and grade containers based on their interior condition, determining their suitability for different types of cargo. This involves assessing whether a container is appropriate for loading food products, general cargo, or if it is only suitable for scrap.

Ensure that containers graded for food or sensitive cargo meet the stringent hygiene and safety standards required.

CSC Certification and ACEP Updates:

Conduct re-inspections of containers to prepare them for CSC (Convention for Safe Containers) certification or to update ACEP (Approved Continuous Examination Program) stickers. This involves verifying that containers meet all safety and compliance standards required for international shipping.

Maintain accurate records of all certifications and ensure that all documentation is up to date and compliant with industry regulations.

Post-Repair Quality Assurance:

Perform follow-up inspections after container repairs to ensure that all work has been carried out according to customer specifications and industry standards. This includes verifying that correct repair methods and materials have been used and that the container is now fit for use.

Document and report any discrepancies found during post-repair inspections and work with repair teams to address any issues.

Training and Development:

Provide training to new inspectors and trainees, using IICL standards as the benchmark for all inspections, estimations, and repairs. This includes conducting hands-on training sessions and providing guidance on industry best practices.

Continuously update training materials and methods to ensure they reflect the latest industry standards and technological advancements.

Yard Traffic Management:

Monitor the flow of traffic within the container yard, ensuring that entrance and exit points are managed efficiently to prevent congestion. This involves coordinating with other team members and using traffic management systems to optimize yard operations.

Ensure that all container movements within the yard are carried out safely and in compliance with DP World’s operational guidelines.

Support for Workshop and Wash Bay Operations:

Assist Supervisors in managing workshop and wash bay operations, ensuring that all processes are running smoothly and efficiently. This may involve overseeing the cleaning and maintenance of containers, coordinating repair schedules, and ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly.

Provide input on ways to improve operational efficiency and contribute to the continuous improvement of workshop and wash bay processes.

Maintaining High-Quality Standards:

Uphold high-quality standards in all aspects of the inspection and repair process. This includes ensuring that all containers meet or exceed customer expectations and that all work is carried out in accordance with industry regulations and DP World’s quality guidelines.

Conduct regular audits of inspection and repair processes to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform any other duties as assigned by your line manager. This may include participating in special projects, providing support for other departments, and contributing to DP World’s overall mission of facilitating global trade.

Stay updated on industry trends, new regulations, and technological advancements to continuously improve inspection processes and ensure DP World remains a leader in the industry.

Adherence to DP World’s Policies and Safety Guidelines:

Strictly adhere to all DP World’s policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), following safety protocols during inspections and repairs, and participating in safety training sessions.

Actively contribute to a safe working environment by reporting any hazards, incidents, or near-misses to your line manager and participating in safety improvement initiatives.

Desired Candidate Profile:
