Job Description

Position Overview

Arnolfini, an internationally acclaimed contemporary arts venue in central Bristol, is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help shape and implement a new, financially sustainable business model. This executive leadership position will work closely with the Director and Board to drive organizational transformation and ensure Arnolfini's continued success and growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Development

Collaborate with the Director and Board to develop and implement a financially sustainable business model

Lead strategic planning for commercial operations, financial management, and administrative functions

Drive organizational change initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

Ensure alignment of operational strategies with Arnolfini's artistic vision and values

Financial Leadership

Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting

Develop and implement strategies to diversify revenue streams and maximize income

Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed

Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements

Commercial & Operational Management

Lead all commercial activities to maximize revenue generation

Oversee facilities management, IT infrastructure, and operational systems

Develop and implement policies and procedures to optimize operational efficiency

Ensure legal compliance across all organizational activities

Team Leadership

Provide leadership and direction to operational, administrative, and commercial teams

Foster a positive organizational culture aligned with Arnolfini's values

Implement effective performance management and professional development systems

Promote cross-departmental collaboration and communication

Stakeholder Engagement

Develop and maintain relationships with key external partners and stakeholders

Support fundraising initiatives and strengthen relationships with funders

Represent Arnolfini in relevant external forums and networks

Contribute to audience development and community engagement strategies

Qualifications & Experience

Proven senior leadership experience in a similar role, ideally within the arts, cultural or non-profit sector

Strong financial management skills with experience developing sustainable business models

Track record of successful organizational change management

Commercial acumen with experience in revenue generation and business development

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Commitment to contemporary arts and Arnolfini's mission

Knowledge of the arts funding landscape (desirable)

Position Details

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract: Permanent
