Role Overview – National General Insurance is looking for an Assistant Manager – Medical Underwriting for a position at the Head Office in Dubai. This role is ideal for experienced medical underwriting professionals who can assess medical risks, make underwriting decisions, manage medical underwriting processes, and support the underwriting team in life and health insurance operations.
Medical Risk Assessment – You will assess medical risks by reviewing medical reports, analyzing health information, evaluating underwriting evidence, interpreting medical data, and determining the insurability of applicants based on their health status and medical history.
Underwriting Decision Making – You will make underwriting decisions including approving standard cases, applying ratings for substandard risks, declining high-risk applications, determining appropriate premiums, and ensuring decisions align with company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
Medical Underwriting Management – You will manage medical underwriting processes by overseeing case workflows, ensuring timely processing, maintaining quality standards, coordinating with medical examiners, and ensuring efficient underwriting operations.
Team Support and Leadership – You will support and guide the medical underwriting team by providing technical expertise, reviewing complex cases, training junior underwriters, ensuring consistent decision-making, and promoting professional development within the team.
Medical Evidence Coordination – You will coordinate medical evidence requirements including ordering medical reports, liaising with healthcare providers, arranging medical examinations, following up on outstanding requirements, and ensuring complete medical information for underwriting decisions.
Reinsurance Liaison – You will liaise with reinsurers on complex medical cases, facultative submissions, underwriting queries, and ensuring compliance with reinsurance treaties and obtaining reinsurance approvals when required.
Underwriting Guidelines Development – You will contribute to developing and updating medical underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures to reflect industry best practices, emerging medical knowledge, and company risk management strategies.
Quality Assurance – You will ensure underwriting quality by conducting case reviews, monitoring decision accuracy, identifying improvement opportunities, maintaining underwriting standards, and ensuring regulatory compliance in medical underwriting.
Medical Underwriting Experience – Substantial medical underwriting experience in life insurance or health insurance is required. You should have proven expertise in assessing medical risks, making underwriting decisions, and managing medical underwriting operations.
Medical Knowledge – Strong medical knowledge including understanding of diseases, medical terminology, diagnostic tests, treatment protocols, and health risk factors is essential for evaluating medical evidence and making informed underwriting decisions.
